Guado al Tasso
Tenuta Guado al Tasso is located in the small but prestigious DOC Bolgheri, not far from the coast, in the Alta Maremma, some 100 km from Florence. This appellation is rather recent (it was founded in 1995), but meanwhile, it has become a reference for great, classy Italian wines.
The estate has some 320 hectares under vines, planted in the superb landscape of the Bolgheri amphitheatre. The proximity of the sea brings cool breezes that temper the Summer heatwaves as well as the Winter cold spells. Clouds are scarce here and the sunshine maximal.
The vineyards are planted with cabernet sauvignon, merlot, syrah, cabernet franc, petit verdot, but also vermentino nero and vermentino bianco. The soils are alluvial, the substrate is rich in clay or lime, with stony spots (this is what is called locally scheletro, a typical Bolgheri formation).
The famous Guado al Tasso cuvée blends cabernet sauvignon, merlot, cabernet franc and often a little petit verdot. It was released for the first time in 1990 and shows both elegance and complexity.
