La Braccesca is one of Marchesi Antinori’s largest wineries, covering 379 hectares. The old farm of the Conti Bracci once stood here, and gave today’s winery both its name and its coat-of-arms: an armour-clad arm holding a sword. After passing from one owner to another the estate was purchased by Antinori in 1990.
It is divided into two parts: the main part, situated between Montepulciano and Cortona, consists of 264 hectares, of which 151 are planted with vineyards. The remaining 87 hectares are almost entirely planted with vineyards and is situated between three of the best-known subzones for the production of great Montepulciano wines: Cervognano, Gracciano and Santa Pia.
