Lafazanis

Lafazanis, a dynamic and deeply-rooted wine business

Everything started in 1946 when Vassilis Lafazanis fonded his wine business in Piraeus, the port of Athens. Then, in 1960, he created his first winery in Magoula, still in Attica.

In 1993, Spyros Lafazanis, 2d generation in the business, and an outstanding winemaker, decided to move the winery to Nemea, in the heart of the Nemea GPO, the largest appellation in Greece, in the heart of the Peloponnese. From the state-of-the-art winery are produced some 5 million bottles.

In total, the Lafazanis control more than de 2,000 hectares of vineyard, but own only 11 hectares, 90% of the grapes they use being supplied by some 300 winegrowers with whom the family company has long-term contracts.

Their wines are made with 10 different grapes, mostly Greek. With the experience acquired by the Lafazanis over the years working with these grapes, they know perfectly well how to grow them and to vinify them. And the wines they make with them have won numerous medals at international competitions (London Wine Competition, Mundus Vini...) and have been praised by prominent wine magazines.

The Lafazanis company offers a variety of wine ranges, in Nemea GPO and in Peloponnese PGI. They also produce spirits.

In 2016, the 3rd generation entered the company with Athena Lafazanis, in charge if the Commercial department, and Vassilis Junior, a talented oenologist. So Lafazanis is as dynamic as ever and its future looks bright.
