Montenisa
This estate lies in the heart of the Franciacorta appellation, an area of Lombardy, in Northern Italy that a gained a very good reputation for its sparkling wines. Tenuta Montenisa is located near the ancient hamlet of Calino, surrounded by rolling vineyards interspersed with manor houses and historic palazzi.
As one can expect from the Antinoris, the sparkling wines produced here are of outstanding quality. The varietals here are chardonnay, pinot noir and pinot blanc. Only the best grapes are used, be they from the famous Santo Stefano hill or more recent vineyards, walled like a French “clos”.
In 1995, Franciacorta obtained the prestigious status of DOCG for its “méthode traditionnelle” wines. At Tenuta Montenisa, these are aged “sur lattes” (on racks) much longer than the law stipulates, and they are handled with great care. The result is refined, classy bubbles which express their terroir, true to the spirit of Antinori.
